The Washi Ningyo, dolls themselves are the province of Tokyo. Traditionally they were given to teach girls to wear the kimono. They are also used in purification ceremonies, such as Hina Matsuri festival in which the wrists are rubbed blown and then are thrown into the river to take all the bad luck with them.
